Welcome to Professor John Wilkins, our Newest Science and Philosophy Advisory Council Member

John Wilkins did his PhD at the University of Melbourne. He has researched and taught at the University of Queensland, the University of Sydney, the University of New South Wales, and the University of Melbourne. He has published several books: Species: A History of the Idea (2009, the first edition of this book), Defining Species (2009), The Nature of Classification (2013, with Malte C. Ebach),  and edited Intelligent design and religion as a natural phenomenon (2010). He is the author or coauthor of 28 papers and 13 book chapters. John is currently Honorary Fellow at the University of Melbourne School of Historical and Philosophical Studies, where he lectures, and is a research fellow at the Ronin Institute, Montclair, NY.




John is a long time advocate for science and the philosophy of science, and a superb researcher and philosopher. He is joint developer, with Professor Paul E. Griffiths, of the 'Milvian Bridge' argument against evolutionary debunking arguments (a specific and very powerful argument originally proposed by Professor Alvin Plantinga.) John is an adjunct professor at The University of Melbourne and has taught at numerous leading Australian universities. He has one of the most popular philosophy of science blogs in the world, and has contributed to The Conversation, and is a member of the Ronin Institute. John is an active managing participant, and the Website manager for, The Australasian Association for the History, Philosophy, and Social Studies of Science .
